Bring on the showers!

On January 7th my favorite ladies threw me the cutest baby shower.  I am so lucky to have these girls in my life.  They will all love Drew so much and be such a perfect support network for myself.  Thanks Amanda, Erin, Tessa, and Kristin.  You did a fantastic job.

Doctor's Visits

This month seems to have been the month for doctor's visits.  We have been scared, anxious, nervous, relieved, disappointed, etc.  I will do my best to chronologically log the visits and what occurred at each of them.

January 11th - This was just a routine visit.  This is the second visit that my blood pressure was elevated.  I discussed this with my doctor, and he said unfortunately, there was not much I could do to lower it.  He did, however, schedule me to come back the next week.

January 17th - This visit was actually with the office's midwife so I could meet her.  During the preliminary checks, before going back the nurse asked about my swelling as they always do.  I told her that I am always swollen.  She felt of my legs and then checked my blood pressure.  My blood pressure was quite elevated so they put me in a room laying on my left side with a monitor on to make sure the baby was not in any stress.  They had me like that for about 45 minutes.  The baby was fine and my blood pressure went down.  However, they felt the need to pursue this a bit further just to be safe.  First, they took me out of working from the office.  I am to work from home until the baby comes so I can get my feet up and get more rest.  Second, they sent me home with a bucket to collect my urine for the next 24 hours so it can be analyzed for protein levels.  They are looking to make sure I do not have preeclampsia.  The worst part of this bucket is it has to be kept refridgerated.  Good thing we have that little fridge downstairs.

January 18th - I had to go back to the doctor to return my bucket of urine and have some vials of blood drawn.  All I could do at that point is cross my fingers.  I am nervous and anxious at this point.

January 19th - Back to the doctor...that's 3 days in one week if you are keeping count!   My blood pressure was 144/84 and there was no signs of protein on the urine dipstick test.  I was told to continue to rest.  Dr. Lonergan set me up to come back on Monday and wanted me to bring Jonathan to discuss labor signs and to go over the test results.  If the urine analysis shows protein in my urine, we would then discuss the option of induction.

January 23rd - Jonathan and I went to the doctor not knowing what to expect.  We talked about me going into the hospital on the way there, but hoped that everything would just come back normal.  We went in and went through the routine checks and then went into the doctor's actual office.  There we discussed my blood pressure and the test results.  My blood pressure was down and all the tests came back normal.  All that meant there was no reason to induce me at this time.  We talked about the signs to look for to indicate the beginning of labor.  Then the doctor told us to feel free to go into labor at anytime.

After the doctor visit, Jonathan and I went to Babies R Us to pick up the rest of the items we needed.  As soon as we got in the car, we started talking about what we might be able to take back.  I just want to make sure we need the items we are buying and not just spending money.

January 29th - Jonathan and I went and finally toured the hospital.  The head nurse, Sandy Davis, was so nice and walked us through everything.  Piedmont Newnan is an older hospital and the rooms are a bit small, so there will be a bit of crowd control going on, but it will be fun.

January 31st - For this doctor's appointment, I actually loaded the bag in the Jeep just in case.  My theory is they can send me across the street to the hospital at any time if my blood pressure spikes again.  I am now 38 weeks and 4 days.  Luckily, my blood pressure remained stable at 146/82.  The doc did say he felt she was dropping, so that is good news.  My next appointment is Monday, February 6th.  When I called Jonathan to tell him there was no trip to the hospital today, he was so disappointed.  I think he is just ready for her to be here.

Random Late Night Thoughts....

It seems just like yesterday that I was getting a card from a crying Candi informing me of the wonderful journey that we were about to embark on. There have been so many different emotions that I have felt in the past seven month that at times I felt like I had multiple personality disorder. Through all of the crazy thoughts and emotions there are two things that have not changed. The first one is that I love Candi with everything that I have and the second is that I CANNOT wait for Drew to get here.

As many of you have told me, there is nothing that I have done yet in my life that can even hold a candle to what is about to happen around here in a few weeks. I cant even begin to tell everyone thanks enough for all that they have done. From the ones that have helped my do things in the room, offered an ear when I needed to vent, shared advice and answered all of the crazy questions that I have had and even the ones that have told me just to shut up and calm down. I love every last one of you.

So I sit here late tonight wishing I were sleeping but for some reason I cant. All I can do is sit here and wish that we were four weeks down the road. I know that when Operation Drew Bird goes out in the next few weeks that we will all be on the edge of our seats waiting on this wonderful bundle of joy to bust out of what we will call Mommy's Jail. Daddy will be there to do whatever it takes to break her out, hopefully this is the only time that I will have to get her out of jail.

Surprise Shower

Jonathan and I were more than surprised when the Sanders Christmas gathering turned into a shower for us.  We got lots of great things, and are so blessed to have great people around us.  Things are getting very exciting and anticipation is really starting to kick it.
She got lots of cute outfits and they are all different sizes which is exciting!

This is the first Mommy thing she has gotten.  I was so happy to see it.

She got some of the components to her bedding as well as some bibs

Bathtub essentials

Her first doll and basic neccessities

And both the audio and video monitors.
We are so grateful for everything.

Christmas Gifts for Drew

Jonathan and I were very blessed this Christmas, as always.  We were not expecting gifts for Drew as she is not even here yet.  But to our surprise, she received gifts.
From Aunt Katy, Uncle Clint, James Henry & Eli:  Diapers
From MawMaw Kelley:  Gloworm & print frames
From Gran:  Lamp for her room

Furniture

Jonathan found a fantastic deal on some used furniture on this website he frequents.  We paid $50 for a dresser, nite stand, and mirror.  I love the little set, but it is proving to be a bit troubling as you will see below.
This is what the furniture looked like when we got it.  I kind of has an antique white color to it.  The plan is to paint it high gloss white and spray paint the pulls a brushed nickel.
Dave came over and helped Jonathan paint them.

Whether it was due to the cold or the wind, the paint didn't take.

The paint actually started flaking off the top of this nite stand.

Here is the mirror

We have 2 more plans to try before we give up.  1) Try another coat this weekend when it is a bit warmer.  2) Try to spray paint on top of the paint to see if it will stick.  Hopefully, something will work, because I really do love this set.

At least the furniture pulls came out looking good.

The Evolution of the Room

Jonathan has been working on getting Drew's room ready.  The room is ready thanks to help from some friends.  The furniture is not ready or in place but everything else is done.  Thanks to Dave, Amanda, and Dustin for all their help!

I really wish I had a before picture of this room so we could show how brown and full this room was.

The bedding is so pink so we decided to paint the room yellow and green.

I requested the chair rail to break up the colors.

In the corner, you see the changing table that Jonathan & I found at a consignment sale months ago.

Dave and Amanda helped Jonathan paint the room while I was out of town.  It was a nice surprise to come home to.

Better look of the changing table

Dustin and Jonathan had a good time trying to figure out the chair rail.

A few mistakes and learning opportunities but it came out perfect!

Third Trimester

November 18th started my third trimester.  I have to admit that I had a bit of a freak out when I realized we were in the last stretch of this pregnancy.  I feel as if we have so much to do still and with the holidays just am not sure we will get it all done.

I have to say that I am still very lucky in this pregnancy.  I have made it this far without any major concerns.  My hands are starting to bother me quite a bit.  Apparently, I have pregnancy induced carpal tunnel.  Basically, what that means is that my hands get swollen which prevents the blood from circulating the way it should.  This causes my hands to go numb.  It gets pretty annoying b/c it slows me down when doing everyday things like: writing, blow drying or straightening my hair, etc.  I bought myself some braces to sleep in on November 30th.  It has gotten to the point now that I also wear them during the day.  They seem to help sometimes but it is not a perfect fix.  However, if this is the only thing I have to complain about during this pregnancy then I am so very thankful.

On November 28th, we met one f the other doctors from the practice that could end up delivering Drew.  She was really nice, but I still hope my original doctor is available for the big day.

We started taking our preparation classes at the beginning of December.  We have attending Baby Basics, Infant CPR, and a Breastfeeding class.  So far, I think the most important thing Jonathan has learned is that 911 doesn't need a long drawn out story.  Just kidding.  All of the classes provided a lot of great information.  It is a little bit of an overload, so I hope we can find our references in the future.  Breastfeeding is the one topic that intimidates me the most.  I feel as if it does not matter how much information I get, it just still is not enough.

We think we have chosen a pediatrician group.  They have offices in Carrollton, Bremen, and Villa Rica so it should be relatively convenient for us.  At least that is another thing that we can cross off our list.

I have had a few more doctor's appointments.  They have all been routine with no surprises.  After my next appointment, I will start to go every single week.  I really can't believe how little time is left.
